Subtxt

Subtxt is a browser-based writing AId aimed at fiction authors who want more structure without losing the instincts that drive their Storytelling. Rather than generating finished prose, it works at the planning layer, helping writers turn a rough premise or a tangle of IDEas into an outline they can ACTually draft from. The emphASIs is on collaboration between the writer's judgment and the tool's analysis, so the author stays in control of creative choices.

What it does

Subtxt is designed around the idea that a strong story rests on a coherent underlying structure. Writers describe their characters, premise and intended arc, and the platform helps surface how those elements connect. The result is a working outline that can reveal gaps, weak motivations or nARRative Threads that need more development before drafting begins. It is a thinking partner for the plotting stage rather than a finished-draft generator.

Key capabilities

• story outlining: Build and refine outlines for novels, screenplays and other narrative fORMats.
• Character and premise tracking: Keep central figures and story goals organized in one place.
• Structural feedback: Get Prompts that encouRAGe you to examine pacing, motivation and cause-and-effect.
• Author-led Workflow: Suggestions support your decisions instead of replacing them.
• Web access: Work from a browser without installing desktop software.

Who it is for

Subtxt suits novelists, short-story writers, screenwriters and narrative designers who already have ideas but struggle to organize them into a workable plan. It can be useful for writers who dislike rigid templates and prefer a flexible, question-driven APProach. It is less suited to people looking for instant prose generation or a full manuscript written for them, since the tool focuses on planning rather than drafting.

How to get started

Beginning typically means creating an account on the official website and starting a project with a working title and premise. From there, you add your main characters and the beats you already know, then use the platform's prompts to expand or test the structure. Many writers find it helpful to import an existing outline and let the tool highlight areas that need more clarity. Expect a short learning period while you get comfortable with how the feedback is framed.
