SoftBank has injected US$457 million into its UK-based subsidiary, Graphcore, an AI Chip and systems developer. According to a CNBC report, the funding was executed through a single share issuance filed on April 10. A spokesperson for Graphcore confirmed that the capital injection originated directly from the Japanese Investment giant.
This investment marks a significant step in SoftBank’s strategy to bolster its AI infrastructure and hardware portfolio. SoftBank acquired Graphcore in 2024 to strengthen its position in the Semiconductor market. The company continues to expand its AI ecosystem, which includes the chip architecture leader Arm and the data center CPU designer Ampere Computing. Furthermore, SoftBank is a key backer of the massive US$500 billion "Stargate" project, a joint initiative with OpenAI and Oracle aimed at building next-generation AI Infrastructure.
