Samsung Electronics and Google have officially unveiled their highly anticipated AI-powered smart glasses, developed in collaboration with eyewear giants Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. Scheduled for a launch this fall, this strategic move positions the tech rivals to directly challenge Meta's dominance in the burgeoning AI eyewear market.
The initial models are designed as seamless smartphone companions, leverAGIng audio capabilities and built-in cameras to integrate deeply with google's Gemini AI. Users can expect hands-free assistance for real-time navigation, phone calls, and live translation without needing to reach for their devices. While these first-generation glasses focus on audio and camera-based interACTions, Samsung and Google confirmed that advanced veRSIons featuring built-in visual displays are currently in development and planned for a 2027 release.
Although specific pricing and exact release dates have not yet been disclosed, Google has assured users that comprehensive privacy details will be shared in the coming months. In a broader push into wearable technology, Google is also preparing to release its Standalone AR glasses, Project Aura, developed in partnership with Xreal, later this year.
