Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has confirmed on X that OpenAI's models will be directly avAIlable to AWS Bedrock customers within the coming weeks. This launch will be accompanied by a jointly developed Stateful Runtime Environment, a feature designed to allow AI Agents to retain mEMOry and context across multi-step tasks.
This development marks the first concrete outcome following the revision of openai's agreement with Microsoft, which previously held exclusive rights to OpenAI's API products, preventing AWS from hosting the closed-source models directly. Coinciding with the agreement's revision, Jassy publicly announced the accelerated Timeline, moving the launch of the Stateful Runtime and models from "the coming months" to "the coming weeks," a timeline initially announced in February.
This follows a strategic partnership established in February, wherein Amazon committed to investing up to $50 billion in OpenAI, with an initial $15 billion already disbursed. The collaboration also includes a separate eight-year, $100 billion agreement for AWS compute expansion, under which OpenAI has committed to utilizing APProximately 2 gigawatts of Trainium compute capacity.
