HAIDL: A Formal Model and JupyterLab Runtime for Treating Human-AI Interactions as Data
Researchers propose HAIDL, a formal interaction description language that encodes each human-AI exchange as a structured object capturing computational context, prompts, responses, feedback, provenance, and model metadata. They also introduce HAIDL-X, a JupyterLab middleware that captures user-bot state, builds contextualized prompts, interfaces with AI providers, and stores interactions in a repository. A learning layer maps these objects and notebook execution traces into reproducible measures of engagement, performance, help-seeking, and other user behavior. The work aims to make human-AI collaboration queryable, replayable, and analyzable.
It offers a concrete formal schema and open middleware for capturing, replaying, and analyzing human-AI interactions, which is directly useful for teams building explainable and reproducible AI-assisted tooling.
