Adam Launches AI-Powered CAD Agent with Native Onshape and Fusion 360 Integration

Zach, co-founder of Adam, announced the beta launch of Adam's new CAD harness—an AI agent that works directly inside professional CAD tools rather than operating as a Standalone text-to-3D web APP. The product is now avAIlable as a native plugin for both Autodesk Fusion and PTC Onshape.

Adam takes a fundamentally different approach from earlier text-to-CAD experiments. Instead of generating black-box STL files from text Prompts, the new harness reads existing parts, understands the full feature tree, and makes Agentic edits while giving engineers complete visibility and control. Users can issue natural language commands such as "merge redundant features and clean up my tree," "rename every feature so the tree is ACTually readable," "round all internal edges with a 2mm fillet," or "parametrize my model." Full end-to-end CAD generation is also supported.

Key technical details include:

• CAD-as-code approach: Adam leveRAGes Onshape's FeatureScript and Python in Fusion heavily under the hood.

• Model-agnostic architecture: The platform selects the best-performing frontier model for each specific task based on internal benchmarks, rather than locking into a single AI provider. Recent models like GPT-5.5 and Opus 4.7 have shown significant improvements in spatial reasoning.

• open-source roots: The company previously open-sourced its earlier text-to-CAD work under the CADAM project on GitHub.

The launch follows anthropic's recent Autodesk connector announcement, which the Adam team views as validating the broader direction. However, Adam differentiates itself through model flexibility and deeper native CAD integrations, with additional software integrations already in development.
